Miata Playseat modification

This is a quick walkthrough of rebuilding my PlaySeat Evolution to replace the standard included seat with a passenger seat from a 94 Mazda Miata.

I had quite a few reasons I wanted to give this a try. For starters, the standard seat that is included with this rig kind of sucks. It doesn't have a lot of padding, and even with the included sliders, I never could get it quite as comfortable as I wanted it to be. Plus I replaced the seats in my Miata, and this one was in pretty good condition so I didn't want to trash it.

One of the biggest advantages the Miata seat added, besides comfort, was it's head rest mounted speakers. I figured tying these into my ancient Logitech 5.1 surround system to act as rear speakers would be an excellent idea, and it was.

8/26/2026 Update

A few months ago, I retired the Playseat and went with a Fanatec Sim Racing CSL Cockpit V1.5 (what a name). The price was good, and I always had issues with the Playseat having more pedal and wheel flex than I wanted. So the above information is all legacy at this point.

The good news - reusing the Playseat seatrails on the Fantec was super straightforward and easy. I did have to shorten the bolts I used originally with the Playseat modification. Just a few minutes with the dremel.

The bad news - Fanatec has stock in a nuts and bolts company and this new rig had at least 300 of them.

The crap news - totally didn't notice it did not include a shifter mount, so that was extra.
